Ximena has vast experience in competition law, international trade law and regulated markets and industries. Between 2012 and 2015 she worked as senior associate of the competition division at Aninat, Schwencke & Cia law firm, advising clients from a wide range of industries on all areas of competition law –including cartel and abuse of dominance procedures as well as the former voluntary merger control regime- and representing them before Chile’s Competition Authority [the FNE], and in contentious and non-contentious proceedings before the Competition Tribunal. Previously, she worked as legal officer at the research division of the FNE, where she participated in various investigations and market studies in different economic sectors.

Prior to joining the Competition Authority, Ximena was the deputy head of the Competition Policy and Trade Defense Department at the General Directorate of International Economic Affairs of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leading the competition and trade remedies chapters’ negotiation teams in several trade agreements. She represented Chile in the Rules negotiations at the World Trade Organization and participated in a number of antidumping, safeguards and subsidies investigations. Ximena has worked as an independent competition and international trade consultant and has prepared legal opinions and studies on an array of competition and regulatory matters. She is assistant European editor at Arbjournal, analysing legal and regulatory issues, in particular the antitrust risks involved, that drive cross-border mergers & acquisitions and hostile takeovers.
