Felipe Cousiño is a partner at Alessandri and head of the firm’s Capital Markets Practice which includes advising global asset management firms on the formation and registration of Chilean and foreign investment funds and advising on underlying transactions relating to their different asset classes, such as registered equity and debt securities, ETFs as well as alternative investments (private equity (including structuring exits), private debt, real estate, natural resources, aviation, mining, infrastructure). His practice has also focused on mergers and acquisitions, competition law and insurance.

He led the team in Alessandri that incorporated and obtained the insurance company license in Chile for Euler Hermes Seguros de Crédito S.A, the credit insurance affiliate of Allianz. He provides day to day advice on insurance, corporate governance and regulatory matters to said local affiliate as well as to Chubb de Chile Compañía de Seguros Generales SA, the Chilean subsidiary of The Chubb Corporation. He has registered in Chile several foreign reinsurance companies and has lead the teams advising foreign insurance brokers on the acquisition of local insurance brokerage firms.

He provides day to day advice to local insurance companies in relation to registration/deposit of new general conditions of insurance policies, as well as advice in relation to non- registered insurance products. His expertise of advice in relation to new insurance products includes accident and health, D&O, Errors & Omissions, firearms, civil liability, livestock, bonding, credit insurance, unit linked insurance policies, etc.

His expertise also covers corporate governance and regulatory advice for insurance companies, having advised inter alia on the setting up the corporate governance and risk management policies of insurance companies in Chile. He also provides advice to insurance companies in relation to the regulations applicable to their investments, in particular their regulatory capital and technical reserves. He has advised on the corporate and regulatory aspects of capital increases and corporate reorganizations of insurance companies.

In 1996, he obtained a Master of Laws (with Merit) from The London School of Economics and Political Science, after being awarded a Chevening Scholarship by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Since 2018, Felipe is part of Acafi’s Legal Committee. The Asociación Chilena de Administradoras de Fondos de Inversión A.G. -ACAFI for its initials in Spanish- is a trade association that gathers almost the entire fund management industry in Chile. It was created in 2003 and become a legal entity in 2005.

Felipe is a member of the Chilean Bar Association and of the International Bar Association. He is also an arbitrator of the Mediation and Arbitration Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago) and was an Advisor to Círculo Legal de ICARE for the 2008 – 2011 period. He has also contributed to the work of the Competition Law Commission of the Chilean Bar Association.

He was the President of the Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce (Britcham) between 2006 and 2009.
