Gobierno de Chile confirma nueva Ley de Datos Personales para inicios de 2017

Poniendo fin a un sinnúmero de especulaciones sobre la materia durante el último año, finalmente el Gobierno de Chile confirmó oficialmente que espera concretar el envío del nuevo proyecto de Ley de Protección de Datos Personales al congreso en enero próximo.

La iniciativa persigue actualizar la actual normativa chilena de Protección de la Vida Privada -que data de 1999 y adecuarla a los estándares de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos (OCDE), a la cual accedió Chile en 2010 y que integran 35 países incluyendo la mayoría de los estados europeos y los tres norteamericanos, además de Israel, Japón y Corea del Sur.

El gobierno confirmó que el nuevo proyecto de Ley de Protección de Datos de Datos Personales incluye la creación de una nueva Agencia Pública encargada de la supervigilancia y fiscalización de la nueva institucionalidad regulatoria.

Government of Chile confirms new Personal Data Law for early 2017

Ending a number of speculations on the subject during the last year, finally the Government of Chile officially confirmed that it expects to send a new draft of the Law on Protection of Personal Data to the Congress in January.

The initiative seeks to update the current Chilean legislation on the Protection of Private Life, which dates back to 1999, adapting it to the standards of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), to which Chile acceded to in 2010 and which consists of 35 countries including most of the European countries and the three North Americans countries, alongside Israel, Japan and South Korea.

The government confirmed that the new draft of the Law on the Protection of Personal Data includes the creation of a new Public Agency responsible for overseeing and monitoring the new regulatory institutions.
