International conference of environmental impacts will be held in Chile

The 34th Annual Conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA14) will be carried out in Viña del Mar and will bring together nearly a thousand experts in evaluating the environmental impact of the world.

For the first time in Chile, international leading experts in environmental impact evaluation will gather en the Garden City. The 34th Annual Conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA14) will take place the 8th and 11th of April, in the event centre of the Municipal Casino of Viña del Mar.

The Executive Director of the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA), Ricardo Irarrázabel along with the Mayor of Viña del Mar, Virginia Reginato, were in charge of informing about the participation of Chile in the international conference y also emphasized the great opportunity that this event means in forming strategic and business alliances for our country.

Ricardo Irarrázabal stated that “IAIA 2014 is the first environmental seminar that will take place in Chile, it is an opportunity to share experiences and ideas about the results of the evaluation against economic and social development”, adding that it is expected that “functionaries of environmental services with knowledge of the environment, will actively participate since it will be in Viña where the best practices of the environmental assessment will be discussed.”

Mayor Virginia Reginato stated that Viña del Mar is prepared to receive almost a thousand people that will arrive in April to the Garden City to participate of the IAIA. She emphasized that “to be the host city of the 34th Annual Conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment is a privilege for Viña del Mar, but it is also a confirmation of the positioning reached in tourism of contents, of conferences and business meetings.”

The finality of the IAIA14 conference is to discuss the different instruments of the environmental impact assessment which will help developers, the industry, politics responsible, financial institutions, providers of development cooperation, and the public, to integrate environmental, social components, and other concerns.

IAIA was created in 1980 and brings together researchers, practitioners and users of various types of impact assessment from all over the world. The association is the leading global network that brings together the best practices in the use of impact assessment for decisions on policies, programs, plans and projects that impact the environment.

About 120 nations make up the IAIA and its members are managers and corporate planners, lawyers and public sectors, planners and government administrators, private consultants and policy analysts, teachers and students in universities and institutes.
